This renovation project transformed a typical box-like condo in Yaletown, Vancouver, into a sophisticated pied-à-terre for a Toronto couple. Our main objective was to maximize the 604-square-foot, one bedroom apartment and customize it to the clients’ refined taste. The result is a bespoke hideaway that’s modern with old world refinement.
To delineate the small space, we raised the ceilings and added architectural details, including traditional coffers, mouldings and panelling throughout. Other details like custom pocket doors reiterate the classic aesthetic while using the space efficiently.
All-new electrical wiring allowed high-tech additions like a built-in audio system, a concealed TV behind bevelled mirror, and bi-folding doors above the fireplace. We commissioned custom-designed furniture to be space-saving, comfortable and sophisticated. The furniture plays on common themes like velvet upholstery, tufted elements, brass accents and marble. Artwork brings a subtle nod to the couple’s hometown (“A Walk Down Queen Street,” by Jon Reed), while the rich colour palette throughout is soft and muted.

"We hired P22D to design and oversee the buildout of our Vancouver pied-a-terre. This was a major project, including taking the space back to its cement walls, floors and ceiling. P22D had a blank canvas with which to work.
The team at P22D with Sarah Lillos our lead designer, really understood our traditional tastes, and designed a space that captured the aesthetic we were looking for. They brought our vision to life.
As this is our Vancouver pied-a terre, most of our communications were long distance. It was very easy working with the team at P22. They also oversaw our suite’s buildout. There were no worries throughout the project.
Having just purchased a larger townhome, we look forward to again working with P22 on this new project.”- Mark & Karen
