This new home was designed for a young family of 4. They wanted a comfortable space for their family to grow with room to entertain and the benefits of nearby schools, local shops and restaurants.

A neutral palette of streamlined finishes was designed to be timeless and easy for the clients to maintain.  3940 square feet is spread over 3 floors to separate a variety of functions for urban family living. This includes a separate 2 bedroom suite in the basement to help with the mortgage.

On the main floor, open plan kitchen, dining and living spaces were prioritized.  The kitchen counter space is maximized with a 10 foot island and extra depth behind the sink. Fifteen feet of glass wall opens the boundary between the dining area and the outdoor lounge for large dinner parties in the summer. An oversized barn door in the living room opens up to a space for the kids to play, and later study. This adjacency makes it easy to watch the kids day to day, and to hide clutter when not in use. A second, more formal living room on the floor includes a fireplace and and upright piano.

The upper landing has a second home office for the family. Both kids have their own personalized ensuite, designed with materials that will grow with them. The master suite is a special place for the clients to relax. Their bedroom windows take advantage of the mountain view. In the ensuite, engineered hardwood is installed on the floor and wall behind the bathtub to create a cozy space with simple finishes.
